Hi, I live 9 years in London, yet unlike some of you, I do not dare to try for some certificates. Of course, my english is good enough to live and understand without any big problems, however I am aware, it is full of mistakes and simply it is not perfect. Anyone (like@Zzuza), who does have certificate has my full respect

I am not sure, if I do undestand well, but I guess, it should be more like:
I was terribly nervous so it was a relief that I may not speak.
Eventualy:
I was terribly nervous, so I was relieved that I may not speak.
But maybe somebody has better idea? As I asaid, I am not perfect.

@merde Neither do I. I can copy the whole part:
I was terribly nervous so it was a relief that I _______ a speech.
A. hadn't made
B. mustn't
C. may not
D. won't
C is correct (it is written there). I think there some verb is missing… I understand there is a situation of some public speaking and he was happy that he didn't have to speak.

Exactly . I tried to find out if the word „speech“ could be also a verb, but with no success.

Hi, girls… I'd like to join - I am at home with my almost 2 year-old daughter. I've recently started working in a nursery, just as a part time job. I like reading and crocheting, but if only I had more time for that. My English used to be quite good when I was finishing my high school…after that it is getting worse, but last year I passed FCE exam at least and I'd like to continue in improving my English.

@žížal I'd say that there should be a fourth option, „none of the above is correct“. may not a speech is nonsense, the verb is missing and if there's something ommitted, it should be clear from the previous sentence.
